Monty Roberts, a truly talented horseman, developed the use of natural horsemanship techniques. He teaches that by using join up techniques the horse begins to accept you as a leader. These methods of horse training enables us to build leadership and trust with the horse.

When training your horse, it is important to think about four things:

1. Movement of the horse

2. Direction of the horse

3. Speed of the horse

4. When you want the horse to stop

These four basic stages are the beginning steps that create leadership between you and the horse and through the use of body language, eye contact and behaviour that is similar to that of wild animals, a strong bond is often formed between horse and human.
